I just signed up to take a class on making a beautiful perfumed locket!
The class is being taught by Barbe Saint John and is coming up soon on July 12th! I'm so excited, even though I will have to drag my butt all the way across the Bay! I think there's still a couple of spaces available, so go here for more info and to sign up.
I was such a good blogger there for a week or so! Shame on me! But, I have a good excuse. I stupidly clicked on a bad link on Facebook and got a really nasty computer virus that started to randomly shut down my computer and do all sorts of funny things with my email, like not letting me open links that I was sent (the good, non-virusy links!). Finally, after 3 days of lots of virus scans and buying two new pieces of software, the icky virus is gone and I can start trying to catch up!
While my computer was down, I decided to give a new recipe I found for rhubarb soda a try. I have been intrigued by rhubarbs for some time, but since I rarely cook and I am pretty sure you can't just eat them, I never tried them. But, the other day, I found a yummy sounding - and easy - recipe for rhubarb soda and thought it was the perfect excuse to finally try rhubarb. I found the recipe on Culinate.
It was pretty good! I don't think it really serves 6 to 8 like it says in the recipe, unless you really dilute it with sparkling water, but it's still pretty tasty. If I make it again, I would probably add more rhubarb, maybe 2 cups instead of 1 1/2, and/or decrease the amount of sugar. I like sweet things, but it is a bit too sweet and the rhubarb flavor was a little light. But a fun thing to try out on a nice warm weekend!
It was a packed and fun weekend for me all weekend (and I'm paying a bit of the price now since I can hardly keep my eyes open!). On Saturday, I went to lunch with my old friends Dana and Clarissa and caught up on all the latest news with them. We then went over to our friend Dana's house and just relaxed there and listed to music and chatted. Dana seems to have met a lot of famous musicians and the pictures are all over the house and the latest celebrity she has met is Murray from Flight of the Conchords so we laughed about that.
Sunday I headed over to the Union Design Festival, formerly the Capsule Street Fair, down in Hayes Valley, to hang out with friends and to shop. My friends Barbe and Vanina were sharing a space so I went down to their booth for a couple of hours, played with the dogs who walked by and got to catch up with these two fabulous ladies!

Their booth was right in front of Miette Confiserie and I managed to restrain myself from buying any of the delicious macarons they sell inside!
Luckily it wasn't too cold out that day, but it was pretty windy at times. It didn't seem like there were as many people as usual shopping, but they both still did well so I'm happy for them.
Our friend, Leslie, was also vending on the other side of the park.
Her new line of felt flower earrings and brooches were a hit, so she was happy!
I stayed most of the afternoon, but Barbe and Vanina didn't need my help too much, so I went home to relax and actually cooked too! An accomplishment for me! It was a pretty fun weekend and I got to see lots of friends that I don't connect with often enough.
